HEATER Graduate Fellowships - Application Information

HEATER Fellowship

The HEATER fellowship provides a stipend of $13,000 per year over four years, pending successful renewal after the second year of the fellowship. In addition to completing a Thermoelectrics-focused research project, as a HEATER Fellow, you are required to take part in three training areas: an industrial placement, the HEATER School and Seminar Series, and professional skills training courses. Students located away from the location of the seminar will be able to attend the Seminar Series via video link.

As outlined in the application form, you are expected to spend 20% of your time in an industrial placement. You will be required to attend both the HEATER Summer School and Seminar Series each year, and must sit on the organizing committee of one of these two events. In addition to those offered at the Summer School and Seminar Series, you must complete four training courses in professional development.

Fellowship opportunities for the 2017-2018 are now available!  The application form can be downloaded here.  Deadline for submission is September 15, 2017.

Postdoctoral Fellowship

There is one postdoctoral fellowship available through the HEATER program, funded at $50,000 a year. In addition to conducting research on a thermoelectrics-related subject, the postdoctoral fellow leads the planning of the seminar series and summer school.  The Postdoctoral Fellowship position for the 2016/17 and 2017/18 academic sessions is filled.

Travel Funding

Graduate fellows have access to a pool of travel funding to help cover costs of thermoelectrics-related travel outside of the area of their home institution (i.e. attending workshops, academic conferences, visiting collaborator’s laboratories, research at world-class characterization facilities).

The travel grant covers up to 100% of the travel costs not covered by other sources. Travel funding is limited to a set pool of $12,500 for all HEATER fellows per fiscal year (from April 1 to March 31). HEATER fellows can receive funding up to two times per year, excluding travel between the University of Toronto, McMaster University and the University of Waterloo. Funding for this travel may be accessed as needed and applications for these trips will be assessed on a case-by-case basis.

Please contact Program Coordinator, for the travel grant application form.
